To become an IAS officer, you must qualify Civil Services Examination. The exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Let us take a look at some basic questions that might come up in your mind.

1. Which exam should I write to become IAS?

Answer: You have to qualify the Civil Services Examination to become IAS.

2. Who will conduct this Civil Services Examination?

Answer: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Examination every year.

3. What is the examination process?

Answer: UPSC conducts Civil Services Exam in three stages.

  1. First Stage: Preliminary Examination
  2. Second Stage: Mains Examination
  3. Third Stage: Interview

Only the candidates who qualified in Preliminary Examination will write Mains Examination. Only those who qualified in Mains Examination will go to Interview stage. Then UPSC will announce the final result of the selected candidates. These successful candidates will be recruited to the posts of IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS and other central services based upon the post preferences given by them in Detailed Application Form (DAF). Only the candidates who qualified in Preliminary Examination will fill this DAF before their Mains Examination.

5. Which books should I follow?

Answer: NCERT books from class 6th to 12th are the basic books to start your preparation. Along with these books you have to follow some standard books in your basic preparation.
